Taiyo Yuden showcases fingertip-size GPS module

At the Techno-Frontier 2007 event, Japan-based Taiyo Yuden recently claimed to have brought about a compact GPS receiver module, which is measured 8.6 x 6.1 x 1.1 m m, one of the slimmest class thickness of the industries. Taiyo Yuden is aimed at winning its utilization for tiny products like cell phones and portable navigation devices (PND).

The fingertip-Size GPS module is built-in with a 1.5 GHz band RF receiver circuit, which is needed to get GPS signals and a base band processing circuit. The company has so far not specified the name of the chipset maker, however seems to have utilized a diminutive size product by US-based eRide or else. The module, bragging of the minimum receiver sensitivity of -161 dBm, is claimed to be capable of being utilized for high sensitivity GPS apps utilized inside the construction and between constructions.

The company also boasts of its power, which is 150 mW while getting data and 85 mW while keeping track of satellites, An SAW filter is integrated as the RF filter, whereas a TCXO is built up externally. The company also urges use of its ceramic chip antenna and a few other softwares as an antenna for the unit.
